Cyclone Arnab brings heavy rain, weather to improve tomorrow

KATHMANDU: The remnants of Cyclone Arnab, combined with the influence of westerly winds, are likely to bring heavy rain and snowfall to parts of three provinces, prompting authorities to urge farmers and tourists to exercise caution. The weather is expected to improve from tomorrow afternoon.

Moderate rainfall is currently being reported in many places across Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, while light rain is occurring in some areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. Cloudy conditions are expected across all provinces this afternoon.

The Division has forecast moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in most parts of Koshi, Madhes and Bagmati provinces, as well as in some areas of Gandaki Province. Similar conditions are expected in some mountainous and hilly areas of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Heavy rainfall and snowfall are also likely at one or two places in Koshi, Madhes and Bagmati provinces. Light rainfall is expected in some parts of the Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Cloudy conditions are expected across the country tonight, with moderate rainfall and snowfall likely in some parts of the Himalayan region. Light rainfall is also possible at one or two places in the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki provinces.

The Division has advised farmers to avoid agricultural activities, including harvesting and bringing in paddy crops, today and tomorrow due to the possibility of rainfall.

It has also urged tourists to exercise caution, warning of the risk of heavy snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches in high-altitude hilly and mountainous areas. Tourists have been advised against travelling to these areas, while those already there have been asked to remain in safe locations until weather conditions improve.

The Division has further urged the general public and concerned authorities to remain alert and take necessary precautions, warning that rainfall could bring colder temperatures, trigger landslides in vulnerable areas and along roads, and disrupt daily activities, including road and air transportation.

According to the Division, the effects of Cyclone Arnab and the westerly winds are expected to gradually weaken from tomorrow afternoon, bringing an improvement in weather conditions.
