KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel is scheduled to address the nation at 3:30 pm on Monday, according to his secretariat.
The address comes amid the devastating Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa, which have caused extensive loss of life and property. Nearly 2,000 people have reportedly lost their lives, while property worth billions of rupees has been destroyed.
President Paudel visited flood-affected areas of Nuwakot on Monday and met with displaced and affected residents before returning to Kathmandu. His address is expected to focus on reassuring the public amid the ongoing disaster and outlining the government’s response to the crisis.
He is also expected to speak about the situation and developments following the Gen-G movement held on Bhadra 23 and 24 last year.
Earlier on Monday, President Paudel received a briefing from the District Disaster Management Committee in Nuwakot on ongoing search and rescue operations, relief distribution, the operation of holding centers and rehabilitation efforts in flood-affected areas.
He also inspected the holding center at the Covered Hall in Bidur Municipality-2 and interacted with flood-affected people from Rasuwa and Nuwakot sheltering there.
During the interaction, affected residents briefed the President on the loss of lives and property caused by the devastating Bhotekoshi floods and called for stronger government and donor support for search and rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
