Oli, Dahal discuss possible provincial cooperation and current political developments
CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal held talks on Tuesday, discussing possible cooperation in provincial governments and the country’s latest political developments. Following the meeting, CPN-UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet said Dahal had described the process of cooperation between the two parties as having formally moved forward after his discussion with Oli. “After his talks with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said the process of cooperation with the CPN-UML has formally begun,” Basnet said in a statement.
Deuba says he is returning to Nepal to defend democracy and the Constitution
Former Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has announced that he is returning to Nepal, saying the country needs united efforts to safeguard democracy, the Constitution and national interests. In a message issued on the occasion of the memorial day of BP Koirala on Tuesday, Deuba expressed concern over recent political developments and called on democratic forces to unite against what he described as politics of retaliation.
Former CAAN chief charged with money laundering over alleged Rs 17.1 million bribe
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a money laundering case at the Special Court against former Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Pradeep Adhikari, alleging that he accepted a Rs 17.1 million bribe. According to the anti-graft body, Adhikari abused his official position in the approval, monitoring and payment of various CAAN contracts, resulting in corruption involving millions of rupees.
Government withdraws 3% equity fee on private education and health sectors after backlash
The government has decided not to implement the three percent equity fee on private education and health services following widespread public opposition. Prime Minister Balendra Shah announced the decision through a Facebook post on Tuesday, saying it was made in consultation with Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle. Shah said the government reviewed the policy after concluding that its immediate implementation would place an additional financial burden on the public and create unnecessary hardship.
CPN-UML withdraws from Bagmati provincial government
The CPN-UML has withdrawn from the Bagmati Provincial Government, marking a new political development in the province. According to Jagannath Thapaliya, leader of the CPN-UML Parliamentary Party in Bagmati Province, the party formally exited the provincial government on Tuesday. Thapaliya said the UML ministers serving in the provincial cabinet will submit their resignations on Wednesday.
Two arrested on suspicion of entering Chitwan National Park for rhino poaching
Two people have been arrested on suspicion of entering Chitwan National Park with the intention of poaching the one-horned rhinoceros, one of the world’s rarest wildlife species. The arrested individuals have been identified as 68-year-old Khadga Narayan Chaudhary of Setipani, Madhyabindu Municipality–1 in Nawalparasi (East), and 52-year-old Tek Bahadur Magar of Furkedanda, Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–5 in Chitwan. According to Chitwan National Park, both were arrested from the Brahmasthan Ghat area of Madhyabindu Municipality–3 in Nawalparasi (East).
NC President Thapa calls for restoring party’s moral authority and identity
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said the party must restore the moral authority and identity it has gradually lost in society. Speaking at the launch of Buddha, BP and Today’s Leaders and the Little Men of Lilliput, a book written by Nepali Congress General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire, in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Thapa said discussions about past political events and leaders are natural, but the party’s key challenge is to regain the moral standing it once enjoyed.
RSP yet to finalize office-bearers 25 days after first general convention
Twenty-five days after the first general convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), party Chair Rabi Lamichhane has yet to finalize the remaining office-bearers, central committee members and secretariat members. The party’s first general convention was held in Chitwan from June 21 to 26. However, even after more than three weeks, Lamichhane has not been able to complete appointments to key party positions.
PM Shah pledges to address challenges facing garment industry
Prime Minister Balendra Shah has pledged to resolve the problems facing Nepal’s ready-made garment industry and prioritize measures to boost production and exports. During a meeting with office-bearers of the Garment Association Nepal at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Tuesday, Shah discussed the current state of the industry and its key challenges. According to Garment Association Nepal President Pashupati Dev Pandey, the meeting focused on reviving Nepal’s ready-made garment industry to its pre-2005 level in an effort to strengthen the national economy.
Harka Sampang condemns treatment of supporters after Janaki Temple dispute
Shram Sanskriti Party Chair Harka Raj Sampang has condemned the alleged mistreatment of his supporters following tensions at the Janaki Temple premises in Janakpurdham on Tuesday. In a social media post, Sampang said he had not reached the temple gate and had turned back before entering the premises. However, he said the alleged insult directed at his supporters was equivalent to an insult against him. “I was on my way and had not reached the temple gate. But insulting those who support me is the same as insulting me,” he wrote.
Nepal issues survey permits for 99 hydropower projects with 3,211 MW capacity
The Department of Electricity Development has issued survey licences to 99 hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 3,211 megawatts in the fiscal year 2025/26. The department has also issued survey permits for seven solar energy projects with a total capacity of 311 megawatts during the same period. For transmission line projects, survey licences have been granted for 179 circuit kilometres of 220 kV transmission lines, 270 circuit kilometres of 132 kV transmission lines and 132 circuit kilometres of 33 kV transmission lines.
Flood-damaged EVs worth Rs 89 million lie abandoned at Rasuwa customs for a year
Eleven electric vehicles (EVs) worth nearly Rs 89 million, damaged in last year’s Lhende Khola flood, have remained abandoned at the Timure Customs Yard in Rasuwa for the past year. The vehicles have neither been cleared by importers through customs nor sent for auction, leaving them stranded at the customs premises. The vehicles, valued at Rs 88.69 million, were buried in the devastating flood that struck on July 8, 2025. As they were completely damaged, importer CG Motors has shown no interest in claiming them.
Over 508,000 foreign tourists visit Annapurna Conservation Area in FY 2024/25
Tourists from 169 countries visited destinations within the Annapurna Conservation Area during the last fiscal year, with total foreign arrivals reaching a record 508,476. According to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), 384,145 visitors came from South Asian countries, while 124,331 were from other parts of the world. Indian tourists accounted for the largest share of arrivals, with 375,797 visitors. China ranked second with 12,539 visitors, followed by the United States with 9,884. The United Kingdom contributed 9,859 tourists, followed by France with 7,939, Malaysia with 7,848, Germany with 7,634, Bangladesh with 7,448, Australia with 7,095 and Israel with 6,398 visitors.
Burnt body found inside car in Kirtipur, police launch investigation
A burnt body was found inside a car at Chandani Chowk in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation. According to the Kathmandu District Police Range, locals alerted police after spotting a person in a burnt condition inside the vehicle. A police team immediately reached the scene and began an investigation.
Gold price rises by Rs 1,000 per tola, silver gains Rs 50
Gold and silver prices increased in the domestic market on Tuesday, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association. The price of fine gold rose by Rs 1,000 per tola to Rs 285,600, up from Rs 284,600 per tola on the Monday.
Govt launches cash reward scheme to encourage genuine VAT and PAN bills
The government has introduced a new reward scheme to encourage the public to collect genuine bills while purchasing goods and services from businesses registered under Value Added Tax (VAT) and Permanent Account Number (PAN). The government is now implementing the reward scheme, announced in the budget. Under the scheme, one person will receive a cash prize of Rs 100,000 every day, while two lucky winners each month will receive a bumper prize of Rs 1 million. Winners will be selected based on genuine bill numbers generated from online or cash payments made while purchasing goods worth more than Rs 100 or making payments at hotels, restaurants and other service providers.
Monsoon increases risk of waterborne and infectious diseases across Nepal
The risk of waterborne and other infectious diseases has increased across the country as continuous rainfall continues with the onset of the monsoon season. The Ministry of Health and Population and health officials have urged citizens to remain alert as cases of diarrhoea, cholera, typhoid, dengue and respiratory infections have increased significantly in various parts of the country. According to the latest report of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), the number of infectious diseases that could potentially turn into outbreaks has been rising across Nepal.
