KATHMANDU: Families taking shelter at the Kirtipur Holding Centre have been displaced after floodwaters inundated the facility following heavy rainfall.

Water entered the holding centre at around 1 am on Saturday night, forcing residents to move their belongings to safer locations.

The affected families have been temporarily relocated to Smriti Bhawan, located near the holding centre in Kirtipur.

Following the incident, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have stepped up security in the area. Security personnel are assisting with rescue efforts, monitoring the affected site and supporting the management of displaced families.

Authorities are preparing to relocate the displaced families to a facility in Kharipati, Bhaktapur, although a final decision has yet to be made.

The concerned agencies said they are coordinating efforts to ensure the safe management and relocation of those affected.
