Five arrested, including two doctors, in Nepalgunj

NEPALGUNJ: Police have arrested five individuals, including two doctors, in connection with an alleged irregularity involving the issuance of health certificates required for obtaining and renewing driving licences.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Pratit Singh Rathore of the District Police Office, Banke, the suspects were taken into custody on Thursday from the Transport Management Office in Nepalgunj.

Police said the group had been issuing health certificates through intermediaries for Rs 200 instead of following the official medical examination process required for driving licence applications and renewals.

DSP Rathore stated that the identities of the arrested doctors and middlemen have not been disclosed as the investigation is ongoing. He said the suspects are accused of violating established procedures and regulations.

Acting on information that health certificates were being issued improperly for a fee, police deployed a team to monitor the situation. Following surveillance and verification, the suspects were detained after evidence of wrongdoing was found, he added.
