CHITWAN: Construction work on the Gautam Buddha Cricket Stadium has resumed after a month-long suspension caused by delays in payment to the contractor.
The construction company had halted work, citing non-payment due to delays in the release of funds from the Bagmati Provincial Government.
According to Bharatpur Metropolitan City engineer Adarsha Pokharel, construction resumed after the provincial government released Rs 90 million for the project.
Division Engineer Santosh Acharya of the metropolitan city said the contractor has now been paid in accordance with submitted bills.
The stadium is being constructed by Himalayan Kalinchok BBR JV. The contract period is scheduled to expire on January 6, 2027.
Officials said that around 55 percent of the construction work has been completed so far.
In June 2024, Bharatpur Metropolitan City signed a contract worth Rs 755.09 million with the construction company, with a target of completing the project by January 2027.
The metropolitan city took over the project and initiated construction through a tender process after the Dhurmus-Suntali Foundation was unable to complete the stadium project.
