Regional conference of honorary consuls concludes in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The three-day regional conference of the honorary consuls that commenced in Kathmandu concluded on Friday.

The conference, organized by the Honorary Consul Corps Nepal (HCC-N) and the World Federation of Consuls, was aimed at coordinating efforts to advance the cause of economic prosperity through economic diplomacy.

The 76 honorary consuls from 18 different countries had deliberated on the wide range of issues such as gender equality, climate action and maintenance of world peace among others during the event.

Experts from various fields presented working papers in the event where Visit Nepal 2020’s campaign coordinator Suraj Vaidya had given a presentation on the government’s initiative to attract as many as 2 million foreign tourists to Nepal in 2020.

Honorary Consuls for Luxemburg Shree Lamichhane shared that the participants had pledged to promote the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign in their respective countries.

The closing ceremony was held in Chandragiri where Honorary Consul for Indonesia Chandra Prasad Dhakal urged the fellow participants for promotion of Nepal.

Furthermore, he drew the attention of the fellow participants to spread the message about Nepal, where, he said, are ample opportunities for industrialists and entrepreneurs to invest in tourism, hydropower project and physical infrastructures.

Earlier, the participants of the event had held a group meeting with President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday where President Bhandari had called for cooperation from the honorary consuls to help promote Visit Nepal 2020, informed HCC-N Dean and honorary consul for South Africa, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha.
