Two suspects still at large in Kirtipur stabbing murder case

KATHMANDU: Police have yet to arrest the two youths allegedly involved in the fatal stabbing of Bipin Ghimire, a student living in Kirtipur, Kathmandu.

Preliminary police investigation has identified one of the main suspects as Raj Bista from Kailali, who was reportedly released from police custody just two days before the incident in connection with a public altercation case.

According to police sources, Bista was released on Monday after being detained in a dispute-related offense. Investigators believe he was the one who stabbed Ghimire during the attack.

Police said Bista fled toward the Satdobato-Gwarko area in Lalitpur after the stabbing. Although authorities have traced his location, both suspects remain at large.

Ghimire, who had been staying in Bodetol of Kirtipur Municipality-10 for his studies and was pursuing a bachelor’s degree, was stabbed to death on Wednesday afternoon.

The broad daylight killing in the capital has raised serious concerns over public security.

District Police Range Kathmandu spokesperson and SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai said the identities of both suspects have already been established and police have located the area where they are believed to be hiding.

Police have also detained three other youths from Kirtipur for investigation. Bhattarai said one of the detainees displayed suspicious activity, while the other two were witnesses to the incident and are not believed to have been directly involved.

Lawmaker demands strict action

The killing has also drawn the attention of lawmaker Govinda Panthi, who represents Gulmi, the home district of the victim.

Panthi condemned the incident, calling it an inhumane and heinous crime that has increased insecurity in society. He urged authorities to immediately arrest those involved and ensure strict legal punishment.

“No one who plays with the lives of innocent citizens should remain outside the reach of the law,” he said.

Panthi stated that, as the elected representative from Gulmi Constituency No. 2, he had taken serious note of the incident and urged concerned authorities to take strong measures to ensure justice.

Meanwhile, the victim’s elder brother, Ishwari Ghimire, claimed that excessive bleeding and delays in treatment contributed to Bipin’s death.

Through social media, he alleged that a person released from custody only days earlier was involved in the murder. He also demanded swift action against the perpetrators.
