Narayan Datta Paudel appointed Armed Police Force IGP

KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Narayan Datta Paudel as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Armed Police Force Nepal.

Government spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Sasmit Pokharel confirmed that Paudel has been appointed as the 13th IGP of the force.

A Cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to elevate Additional Inspector General (AIG) Paudel to the top post, replacing outgoing IGP Raju Aryal, who is set to retire on Baisakh 18 upon completing his four-year tenure.

Paudel had joined Nepal Police as an Inspector on March 31, 1998. Following the establishment of the Armed Police Force in 2001, he was adjusted into the force with a promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).

He was promoted to AIG on May 20, 2022. Other contenders for the top post included AIGs Banshiraj Dahal and Ganesh Thada.

The government, led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, selected Paudel based on seniority.

Under the current police regulation, maintaining a 30-year service limit, Paudel’s tenure is expected to be around 23 months. If the provision is amended to extend the service limit to 32 years, his tenure could be prolonged by an additional two years.
