128 arrested in two-day drug crackdown ‘sweep operation’ in Jhapa



JHAPA: Police have arrested 128 individuals in a two-day sweep operation targeting drug abuse and trafficking in Jhapa district.

The operation, conducted by the District Police Office Jhapa with special deployment in Damak and other areas, resulted in 62 arrests on Friday and 66 on Thursday, according to police.

Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka said 12 individuals arrested with drugs are being investigated under the Narcotic Drugs (Control) Act, while 116 others linked to drug addiction are also under investigation.

As part of the operation, police carried out health checks and mechanical inspections of public transport drivers and conductors along the Mahendra Highway in Damak on Thursday.

Out of 54 drivers and conductors checked, three drivers and two conductors were found operating vehicles under the influence of drugs, while two drivers were confirmed to have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police also arrested five individuals on charges of disorderly conduct after they allegedly misbehaved and obstructed officers during enforcement actions. Cases have been filed against them under the Criminal Code, for indecent behavior in public places, police said.
