Dr KC postpones fast-unto-death strike

KATHMANDU: Dr Govinda KC, who was currently staging his 17th hunger strike in Dadeldhura, has suspended his fast-unto-death.

KC has suspended his fast-unto-death on the ninth day citing border disputes with India. He has also written a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi apprising him about the border encroachment.

In the letter to PM Modi, Dr KC has recalled how he had been to Gujarat during the 2001 earthquake and Kedarnath during 2013 floods to nurse the victims disregarding the border and nationality.

He has also appealed to join hands to fight against the common enemies of humanity the diseases, poverty and backwardness.

Expressing his sadness at the latest move of the Indian government, Dr. KC has requested PM Modi to regard the issue of sovereignty more seriously and respect Nepali feelings.

Dr KC had started the hunger strike on November 4 reiterating his demand of amendment of the Medical Education Act.

He has, however, said his struggle for reforms in the health and medical sector would continue.

Dr KC had started the hunger strike at a house of a local in Dadeldhura.

He was admitted to Dadeldhura District Hospital on the sixth day after his health deteriorated.
