Gokul Baskota mocks ministers’ asset disclosures

KATHMANDU: Gokul Baskota, a leader of CPN-UML and a former minister, has mocked the asset disclosures made by members of the current government, claiming that the country has already turned into Lanka.

Taking to Facebook on Monday, Baskota made a sarcastic remark targeting the ministers’ wealth, particularly their gold holdings revealed in the public asset declarations.

He wrote that while the hills are blooming with red rhododendrons, the ministers’ fields appear to be covered with yellow mustard, hinting at their reported gold assets.

Commenting on the wealth disclosures of the prime minister and ministers, Baskota said that prosperity seems to have already arrived in the country and that good governance appears to have begun from there.

“Looks like the country has already become Lanka. While the hills bloom with red rhododendrons, the ministers’ fields are full of yellow mustard. Prosperity has arrived—and good governance will begin from there,” he wrote.

Citing the Nepali proverb “Where there is poverty, there is cruelty,” Baskota suggested that the country may no longer be poor—but that the prosperity appears to be limited to those close to power rather than the general public.
