Over 140 dead, thousands affected in 7,547 disasters across Nepal in 2082 BS



KATHMANDU: Between Baisakh 1 and Chaitra 24, 2082, Nepal experienced 7,547 disaster incidents, resulting in 140 deaths and 36 people missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority. A total of 1,965 people were injured, and 14,355 families were affected.

Floods and landslides caused the most damage. In 336 flood incidents, 31 people died, 27 went missing, 15 were injured, and 3,305 families were affected. Landslides caused 67 deaths, 5 missing, 32 injuries, and affected 12,566 families in 631 incidents.

Lightning struck in 576 incidents, claiming 34 lives and injuring 10. Fires resulted in 105 deaths, 6 injuries, and affected 5,365 families across 1,562 incidents. Forest fires caused 2 deaths and 3 injuries in 328 events.

Storms injured 13 people and affected 3,765 families in 377 incidents. Animal attacks caused 5 deaths, 1 missing, and 364 injuries across 503 incidents. High-altitude incidents resulted in 36 injuries in 191 cases.

Snowfall caused 4 injuries in 5 events. Other miscellaneous incidents, excluding road accidents, also contributed to human losses.
