KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Shyam Ghimire has clarified that no one within the party has demanded the resignation of party president Gagan Thapa following the election results.
Speaking at a program held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Ghimire said that although internal factors contributed to the party’s electoral defeat, neither he nor other leaders close to Sher Bahadur Deuba had called for Thapa’s resignation, either individually or collectively.
He stated that the party’s failure to adopt the right policies and decisions led to unexpected election outcomes. Ghimire also noted that the party’s dispute is currently under judicial consideration, and the party would accept the court’s verdict.
“We are ready to accept whoever the court recognizes as the party president,” he said, adding that the party must move forward towards its general convention under any leadership.
Ghimire stressed that the Nepali Congress should use the upcoming general convention to clarify its political direction, as well as its economic and foreign policies.
He also expressed confidence that the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), as a major political force, would move forward inclusively on issues of national importance. Ghimire added that he believes the upcoming government will adopt a liberal economic policy.
