Health facilities sans doctors in Far West Nepal

DOTI: Most of the health facilities in the Far West State have faced an acute shortage of doctors owing to the employee adjustment in the changed set up of federalism. T

he Far West Regional Health Directorate, Dipayal informed that the State was in need of 104 doctors.

The problem became acute after most of the doctors opted for working under the federal government. The post of medical superintendent at Doti District Hospital has been lying vacant for long. There are only two health officers though the provision is of three.

The District Hospital said the doctors in the ninth and tenth levels have not been available.

The health facility with 25 beds has vacant posts for two doctors, a health assistant, two auxiliary health workers, a staff nurse and two auxiliary nursing midwifery.

Similarly, Kedarakhada primary health center at Bogtan Fudsil rural municipality has no doctor for one and a half years. An only health assistant is providing service, said a local Hem Balame. “We’ve demanded doctors, but the demand is not fulfilled,” he complained.

Jorayal primary health center is another in need of doctor.

Dadeldhura Hospital is under the federal government, while Seti, Mahakali and district hospitals are under the State governments.

After the primary health center and health post came under local levels, the posts of doctors, ANM and AHW are lying vacant.

Moreover, the post of 19 doctors is lying vacant at Dadeldhura Hospital. Only five doctors have been providing service.

A local from Dipayal, Dibyaraj Pathak, said although the health facilities were seeing an influx of patients, they failed to provide prompt service for lack of doctors.
