Heavy rain triggers flood in Roshi River, BP Highway blocked

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall last night has caused flooding in the Roshi River area, blocking the BP Highway. The affected section had been temporarily restored after last year’s flood and landslide had damaged the highway.

Sunil Dhaju, chief of the District Traffic Office, said the road was blocked early this morning around 3:30 a.m. at areas including Chausay Bensi, Gimdi, Baunne, and Kaldhunga of Roshi Rural Municipality.

“Since the temporary road had been built directly on the riverbed, traffic can only resume once water levels decrease,” he said.

Efforts to reopen the road are underway with coordination between the Road Department and security personnel.

Meanwhile, traffic police have imposed a hold on vehicles entering the highway. Vehicles are being stopped at Dhulikhel, Kavre Bhanjyang and Bhakunde on the eastern approach to Kathmandu, as well as at Nepalthok and Mangalatar, until the road is safe for passage.
