Imports via Birgunj Customs reach Rs 519 billion in first seven months



BIRGUNJ: Imports through the Birgunj Customs Office amounted to Rs 519 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year.

During the same period in the previous fiscal year, imports were lower by Rs 57.31 billion — a difference of around 12 percent compared to this year.

According to Information Officer Uday Singh Bista of the Birgunj Customs Office, petroleum products accounted for the largest share of imports during the review period, followed by iron and iron products.

Petroleum imports alone totaled Rs 143 billion, while iron and iron products amounted to Rs 46.16 billion.

Similarly, machinery and its parts worth Rs 35.87 billion were imported during the period. Soyabean crude oil imports stood at Rs 35.67 billion, and electric machinery, equipment and their parts were valued at Rs 27.98 billion.

Birgunj Customs is one of the country’s major trade points, handling a significant portion of Nepal’s total imports each fiscal year.
