Snowfall expected in a few Himalayan areas today



KATHMANDU: A western low-pressure system is currently affecting Nepal’s upper atmosphere, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division.

The hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as the mountainous areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim provinces, are generally cloudy, while other mountainous areas are partly cloudy.

Light rain and snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning are occurring in one or two places in the hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and mist has been reported in some Terai areas.

This afternoon, fog is expected in some Terai regions, while mountainous areas will remain generally cloudy and hilly regions partly cloudy. The Terai is expected to stay mostly clear.

Light rain and snowfall with thunder and lightning may occur in some mountainous areas of Koshi and Gandaki provinces and in one or two locations in other mountainous regions. Similarly, isolated showers with thunder are possible in the hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki.

Tonight, fog may develop in parts of the Terai, while the mountainous regions of Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces will remain mostly cloudy.

Hilly areas of Koshi and Gandaki and other mountainous areas are expected to be partly cloudy, with clear skies in the remaining regions. Light rain or snowfall without thunder may occur in one or two mountainous locations in Koshi, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.

The Division has advised residents and all those involved in daily activities, including transportation operators, to exercise caution in areas expecting fog, mist, rainfall, or snowfall.
