HoR election: Voter education campaign begins today

KATHMANDU: A nationwide voter education program has commenced today in preparation for the upcoming (March 5) House of Representatives (HoR) elections.

The Election Commission (EC) has launched a special voter education campaign in accordance with the Election Education and Voter Education Guidelines, 2078 BS. The initiative aims to inform citizens about the significance of their voting rights and the proper voting process.

The program will be conducted in all 6,743 wards across 753 local levels until March 1. One voter education volunteer will be mobilized in each ward. According to the Commission, the volunteers will visit communities and households, using sample ballot papers to educate voters about the election process and the correct way to cast their votes.

The Commission believes that effective voter education will help boost voter turnout and reduce the number of invalid votes. Assistant Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the Commission has sought cooperation and coordination from all stakeholders, including the seven provincial governments, local levels, political parties, candidates, and the media, to ensure the campaign’s success.
