National Assembly passes Film Bill



KATHMANDU: The National Assembly has passed the Film Bill in its meeting held on Wednesday at Singha Durbar.

During the session, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Shraddha Shrestha, on behalf of Prime Minister and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Sushila Karki, presented a proposal seeking endorsement of the bill. The proposal was unanimously approved by the upper house.

Prior to the endorsement, the Assembly held discussions on the bill along with a report presented by the Legislation Management Committee.

The government had drafted the new bill to amend and update the Film Act of 1969, aiming to make it compatible with the federal structure and evolving technologies in the film sector.

In the same meeting, Chairperson of the Legislation Management Committee, Tulasa Kumari Dahal, tabled the committee’s annual report for the fiscal year 2024/25.

Members of the National Assembly whose six-year tenure is nearing completion also shared their experiences and contributions during their term.

The next meeting of the National Assembly has been scheduled for Friday.
