Bhaktapur records rise in number of tourists



BHAKTAPUR: Revenue generated from tourism has increased in Bhaktapur with the rising number of visitors coming to this ancient town as the Visit Nepal Tourism Year 2020 draws closer.

The number of tourists visiting Bhaktapur has increased by 600 in the last three months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period of the last fiscal year, the Bhaktapur Municipality has stated.

Fifty-six thousand five hundred and twelve tourists visited Bhaktapur in the months of Saun, Bhadau and Asoj in fiscal year 2075/76 BS. The number of tourists visiting Bhaktapur increased and reached 57,329 in the corresponding three months of the current fiscal year 2076/77 BS.

Chief of the Bhaktapur Municipality Tourism Information Centre, Gautam Lasiwa said that 18,397 tourists visited the town in the month of Saun, 14 thousand 232 in the month of Bhadau and 24,700 in the month of Asoj this year.

According to him, 27 thousand 446 tourists from SAARC countries and China visited Bhaktapur during this period while the number of visitors from other countries was 29,888.

Increase in revenue

With the increase in the number of tourists, tourism revenue has also gone up in Bhaktapur. Rs 58.5 million was collected as revenue from tourist entry fees in the three months of the fiscal year 2075/76.

Bhaktapur collected revenue of Rs 58.54 million in the first three months of the fiscal year 2076/77 BS.

The entry fee for tourists from SAARC countries and China is Rs 500 per person while that for tourists from other countries is Rs 1,000 per person.
