Good governance must begin with oneself: Minister Ingnam

KATHMANDU: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Prof. Dr. Kumar Ingnam, has emphasized that good governance must begin with every individual.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Land Revenue Office’s service for land administration at Kageshwari Manohara Municipality today, Minister Ingnam made it clear that good governance is impossible without eliminating corruption, middlemen, and brokerage.

He highlighted the need to firmly oppose corruption and brokerage at all levels, including within public bodies like the Land Revenue Office. “Everyone, from leadership to employees and citizens, must play a responsible role in establishing good governance,” he said.

Minister Ingnam stressed that ending misgovernance and developing a transparent and accountable administrative system is an urgent necessity. “We all speak against misgovernance, but now good governance must start with ourselves. We must stand firmly against corruption and collectively oppose middlemen and brokerage,” he said.

He also pointed out that misgovernance is the source of many problems faced by ordinary citizens and emphasized that corruption is its root cause. “People cannot trust the state until corruption is controlled. Strong measures are needed to end it,” he said.

“The public perceives the Ministry of Land Reforms as a ministry of bribery,” Minister Ingnam added. “It is essential to identify and collectively hold accountable those who are tarnishing the ministry and state machinery.”

He said the goal is to make land administration clean, transparent, and citizen-friendly through coordination between the federal, provincial, and local levels.

The program also announced that services provided by the Land Revenue Office in Kageshwari Manohara will soon be implemented in ten other local units across the country, including Kathmandu, Jhapa, Pokhara, Morang, and the western region. Minister Ingnam expressed confidence that this initiative will make services easier for citizens, save time and costs, and reduce the role of middlemen.
