KATHMANDU: Cricketer Dipendra Singh Airee and karateka Arika Gurung have been named the Best Male and Female Players of the Year, respectively at the 22nd Pulsar Sports Awards.
The awards were presented by the Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) at a ceremony held in Pokhara on Wednesday. Airee claimed the top honor in the men’s category, while Gurung was declared the best female athlete of the year.
Nepal’s women’s and men’s Kho Kho teams, which created history by winning two silver medals at the Kho Kho World Cup, were jointly honored with the ‘Team of the Year’ award.
Volleyball player Himal Sunari won the People’s Choice Award, while Pooja Mahato, vice-captain of the Nepal women’s national cricket team, was named Best Young Player of the Year.
In the coaching category, para-taekwondo coach Kabiraj Negi Lama received the Best Coach Award. Prabha Angdembe from athletics was honored as the Best Para Athlete.
Former national athlete Khadga Ranabhat was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award, while taekwondo star Palesha Goverdhan received the special ‘Trailblazer of the Year’ award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Nepali sports.
