NC meeting concludes special convention no longer justified

KATHMANDU: A meeting of senior and former leaders of the institutional wing, convened by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, concluded that there is no longer a justification for holding a special party convention.

The meeting, held at President Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj on Sunday, noted that since the party has already set the date for the regular general convention, the rationale for a special convention has lapsed.

After the meeting, Congress leader Bimlendra Nidhi said it was decided to inform convention representatives nationwide that there is no need to travel to Kathmandu for a special convention.

The meeting also urged leaders and party workers across the country to focus on preparations for the upcoming House of Representatives election.

Meanwhile, the Congress has called another executive committee meeting, scheduled for Monday, January 5, at 1:00 PM, according to a notice issued by the party’s chief secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel.

Earlier, after the postponement of the party’s general convention from Poush to Baishakh, the party’s joint general secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwo Prakash Sharma had maintained their stance to hold a special convention within Poush (mid-January).
