Exports via Birgunj surge 89 percent in first five months of current fiscal year



KATHMANDU: Goods worth Rs 39.97 billion were exported through the Birgunj customs point in the first five months of the current fiscal year, marking a sharp increase compared to the same period last year.

The export volume through the southern trade gateway rose by 89 percent, or Rs 18.79 billion, compared to the first five months of the previous fiscal year. During the corresponding period last year, exports via Birgunj stood at Rs 21.18 billion.

Birgunj Customs Office Information Officer Udaya Singh Bista said exports through the checkpoint have witnessed significant growth in the current fiscal year.

According to the customs office, processed soybean oil accounted for the largest share of exports, valued at Rs 20.76 billion during the review period.

Fruit juice exports amounted to Rs 3.07 billion, while processed sunflower oil worth Rs 2.87 billion and processed palm oil worth Rs 1.97 billion were also exported.

In addition, various types of garments worth Rs 1.50 billion were exported through the Birgunj customs point during the five-month period.
