KATHMANDU: The Gen-Z group led by Miraj Dhungana has announced the launch of a nationwide ‘United Gen-Z’ movement starting tomorrow (Monday). The announcement was made during a program held on Sunday in Kathmandu.
Dhungana has called for a gathering at Maitighar tomorrow at 11 a.m. He criticized the Sushila Karki-led government for ignoring the September 8-9 movement and its demands, saying no tangible action has been taken that the people can feel.
He stated that the interim government, formed after the uprising on September 8-9, has lost its legitimacy. Criticizing the administration, Dhungana said the current government has become illegal and its authority is no longer recognized.
Claiming that Prime Minister Karki’s government has failed to understand the essence of the Gen-Z movement and has not effectively engaged the youth, he demanded the formation of an all-party government. He emphasized that the country needs political leadership capable of taking all parties into confidence.
Dhungana also accused the government of attempting to suppress Gen-Z activists and banning them from Singha Durbar, while failing to take meaningful steps in education, health, and employment. He criticized the administration for prioritizing sending injured protesters abroad instead of creating employment opportunities within the country.
Several Gen-Z leaders, including Rabi Kiran Hamal, were present at the program announcing the movement.
Miraj Dhungana’s allegations against PM Sushila Karki government
1. The Gen-Z movement was primarily against corruption, misgovernance, nepotism, and favoritism. However, the current government, formed on the promise of good governance, has become politically motivated and embroiled in nepotism and favoritism.
2. Cases like Chief Personal Secretary Adarsha Kumar Shrestha and the egg case, where the Attorney General allegedly protected his daughter, have exposed the government.
3. Prime Minister Sushila Karki has allegedly encroached on public land near her house in Bhosingdol, Naitokha Municipality-4, Dhapasi.
4. Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal reportedly created a new post to appoint his uncle as DIG of the Armed Police Force, reflecting favoritism.
5. Ministerial appointments have been manipulated by middlemen.
6. The government has committed contempt of court by forcibly recalling ambassadors.
7. The government formed through the Gen-Z sacrifice is actively targeting and arresting Gen-Z activists.
8. Corruption files that have been pending for decades remain unopened, with little expectation of action.
9. Appointments and transfers are still influenced by contracts and middlemen.
10. Peaceful protests are being suppressed, and the administration operates under government control rather than serving the public.
11. The private sector is intimidated, and the investment environment is deteriorating. The government’s decision to send injured protesters abroad is widely criticized.
12. No action has been taken against those involved in major corruption cases.
13. Even after three months of the government being formed, none of the Gen-Z demands have been meaningfully addressed.
14. The Constitution required amendments for political solutions; simply changing the date of the September 8 protest was insufficient.
15. There are questions about why the CIAA and police have not been allowed to tackle corruption under Prime Minister Karki.
16. Appointments continue to be rushed, and critics are being suppressed.
17. There is a contradiction between the slogans of September 8 and the agreement made inside Singha Durbar, as agreements made without parties provide no real solution.
