PM Sushila Karki says good governance, elections govt’s ‘sole focus’
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said her government has made good governance and elections its sole focus, stressing that the upcoming polls are the only viable path to stability and democratic renewal. Addressing the nation on the completion of 100 days of the government formed after the Gen-Z movement, Prime Minister Karki said the administration is firmly committed to holding the House of Representatives election on March 5, 2026, in a free, fair and fear-free environment.
There is no alternative to elections: Chair Rabi Lamichhane
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said that there is no alternative to elections in the current situation. Addressing party cadres and well-wishers at Chaubiskothi in Bharatpur, Chitwan, after his release from prison, Lamichhane said the aspirations shown by the Gen-Z movement can only be fulfilled through elections. He reaffirmed his commitment to stand firmly for addressing the demands of the new generation and ensuring the completion of elections.
SAFF Women’s Club Championship: East Bengal defeat APF to claim title
India’s East Bengal have won the SAFF Women’s Club Championship, organised for the first time by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF). In the final played at Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor on Saturday, East Bengal defeated Nepal’s APF Club 3–0 to lift the trophy. East Bengal captain Fazila Ikwaput scored twice, while Shilky Devi Hanam added one goal.
We are striving to advance Nepal on digital trajectory: Minister Kharel
Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has said that initiatives are being undertaken to propel Nepal forward on the digital front. During the ‘Startup Summit 2025’ held today in Lalitpur, he announced that the government had enacted the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy within three months of its establishment, and efforts are in progress to develop the policy framework for Digital Nepal.
NC leader Koirala urges government to create environment conducive for elections
Central member of the Nepali Congress, Dr Shekhar Koirala, has emphasised that the government should create an environment where the people can vote in a fair and fearless atmosphere for the House of Representatives elections to be held on coming March 5. In discussions with the Nepali Congress leaders and workers at Biratnagar Metropolitan City–6 today, he expressed the view that both the government and the party workers need to cooperate and coordinate to create an election environment.
NCP Joint Coordinator Nepal calls for majority to serve nation
Joint Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has appealed to the public to grant his party a majority in the elections to promote good governance and social justice. Coordinator of Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said there is no alternative to timely conduct the elections to prevent the nation from falling into a crisis. Rabi becomes emotional after meeting families of Gen-Z Martyrs
Soon after arriving in Kathmandu, Rastriya Swatantra Party President Rabi Lamichhane went directly from the airport to meet the families of those killed during the Gen-Z movement. Lamichhane visited the office of the Gen-Z Martyrs’ Families Welfare Association in Babarmahal, where he met the families of the martyrs and expressed his condolences.
Tender of contractors failing to timely deliver will be terminated: Minister Ghising
Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Kulman Ghising, who also holds the portfolio of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development, said that the government will terminate the contracts of construction companies failing to deliver on time. Addressing an interaction programme organised by the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today, the Minister said that there are over three thousand road and bridge contracts, and in some cases, the contractors remain unidentified.
CPN (Unified) concludes province-level meetings
Province-level meetings of the CPN (Unified) have been concluded. The Madhesh Province meeting was held in Mahottari on Friday in the presence of senior party leader Kedar Chandra Sharma. Similarly, the Bagmati Province meeting took place on Saturday at the party’s central office in Maitidevi under the chairmanship of Province Coordinator Jeewan Ram Shrestha. The meetings discussed party building, future programs of struggle, and strategies to establish the party, positioned as a platform for those who reject corruption, among the public.
Nepal–China joint security patrol conducted in Korala border area
A joint Nepal–China security patrol was conducted on Friday in the northern Korala border area, which adjoins China’s Tibet Autonomous Region. Despite sub-zero temperatures during the winter season, joint security personnel deployed along the Nepal–China border have begun regular patrols to strengthen monitoring in the Korala area. According to Armed Police Force (APF) Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhesraj Giri, chief of APF 33rd Battalion Headquarters, Jomsom, the joint patrol covered border pillars numbered 21, 22, 23 and 24 on the Dolpa side of the Korala border area.
JSP-N chief whip Ram Ashish Yadav files nomination for Madhesh Provincial Assembly Speaker
Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP-N) Chief Whip Ram Ashish Yadav filed his nomination on Saturday for the post of Speaker of the Madhesh Provincial Assembly. Yadav submitted his candidacy with the support of seven political parties. According to Provincial Assembly Secretary Basu Prasad Koirala, Nepali Congress lawmaker Birendra Singh is the proposer, while Fakira Mahato of the Maoist Centre is the supporter.

The unity message rally of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has begun in Kathmandu today. Rallies have set off from various locations, including Sundhara and Shantibatika, for the unity message assembly being organized at Bhrikutimandap. The event is being jointly organized by the Bagmati Province Committee, Contact Coordination Committee and the Special Province Committee of the party.
Bidya Devi Bhandari expresses confidence in UML’s new leadership elected from 11th General Convention
Former President and former Vice-Chairperson of CPN-UML, Bidya Devi Bhandari, has expressed confidence that the party’s newly elected leadership from the 11th General Convention will move the party forward by strengthening internal democracy, collective leadership and organizational unity in line with the guidance of People’s Multiparty Democracy. Nepal Rastra Bank to invest Rs 1.2 billion in banks and financial institutions
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced plans to invest Rs 1.2 billion from the Employees’ Provident Fund in banks and financial institutions. Issuing a public notice, the central bank has invited banks and financial institutions to submit applications by December 22, proposing the amount of fixed deposit they wish to accept along with the applicable interest rate. According to the notice, NRB will invest Rs 960 million in Class ‘A’ commercial banks, Rs 180 million in Class ‘B’ development banks, and Rs 60 million in Class ‘C’ finance companies.
