Madhesh CM Yadav to seek vote of confidence on Dec 19

JANAKPURDHAM: Madhesh Province Chief Minister (CM) Krishna Prasad Yadav is set to seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly on December 19.

Chief Minister Yadav sent a letter to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat on Wednesday, requesting arrangements for the confidence vote. In the letter, he stated: “I request you to make arrangements for taking a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 4 pm, in accordance with Clause (4) of Article 168 of the Constitution of Nepal.”

Yadav has not been able to expand the Council of Ministers due to the absence of a confidence vote. Currently, Jangilal Yadav of the Nepali Congress serves as Minister for Health and Population; Ganesh Patel of the Unified Socialist as Minister for Industry, Commerce and Tourism; Jawahar Kushwaha of the Maoist Centre as Minister for Energy, Irrigation and Drinking Water; and Rani Kumari Tiwari of the Democratic Socialist Party as a minister. Tiwari has yet to be assigned a specific ministerial portfolio.

Yadav assumed office as Chief Minister on December 5 with the support of 77 members of the Provincial Assembly from six political parties. According to the Constitution of Nepal, a Chief Minister appointed with the support of two or more parties must seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly within 30 days.
