Good governance and elections are govt’s major agenda: PM Karki

LALITPUR: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said the government is currently focused on two main agendas: ensuring good governance and conducting elections successfully.

Speaking at the 107th foundation day of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the Prime Minister highlighted preparations for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026, following the special situation arising from the Gen Z movement on September 8–9.

“We are eager to hand over executive power to a new government formed in line with the mandate expressed through the election. I urge everyone to contribute to holding the election in a free, fair, impartial, and cost-effective manner. Elections remain the only way to move the nation forward on the path of democracy and good governance,” she said.

PM Karki emphasized that anarchy has no place in society, noting that security agencies are competent and active in addressing threats to peace and criminal activities. “Communities also play a vital role in resisting nefarious forces. Let us join hands to build a nation with good governance and social harmony,” she added.

Lalitpur Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan called on Gen Z groups to support smooth elections, while Deputy Mayor Manjali Shakya Bajracharya recognized the contributions of residents in developing the metropolis. On the occasion, Rato Bangala School and Nira Rajyalaxmi Rana, the city’s highest taxpayers, were also honoured
