Durga Prasai to PM Karki: Let’s hold a referendum on Monarchy

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has taken note of the demands put forward by Durga Prasai, coordinator of the save nation, nationality, religion-culture and citizens campaign.

During a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Monday, Prime Minister Karki discussed the issues raised by Prasai and his campaign.

During the discussion, Prasai urged the Prime Minister to take the demands seriously, stating that these were not personal demands but public demands. Prime Minister Karki said that the government would hold internal discussions till December 17 and then hold further talks.

After the meeting, Prasai said that both Prime Minister Karki and Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal had taken the demands seriously and committed to continuing dialogue.

He also claimed that he had informed the Prime Minister that elections could not be held on time if their demands were not addressed.

Prasai warned that if the current “citizens’ government” formed after the Gen-Z movement fails to listen to their demands, they may be forced to launch a stronger protest movement.

Among his demands are removing small and large businesspersons from bank blacklists, stopping the use of bulldozers against landless squatters and scrap traders without providing long-term alternatives, increasing salaries of soldiers, police, security personnel and civil servants, abolishing the provinces, declaring Nepal a Hindu state, and holding a referendum on the monarchy.
