KATHMANDU: Most parts of the country are likely to experience below-average rainfall this winter, from December 15 to February 16, along with above-average maximum and minimum temperatures, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
In its seasonal assessment released on Wednesday, the department reported an equal chance of below-average, average, and above-average rainfall in the northern areas of Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces and the northwestern parts of Gandaki Province.
However, there is a 55 to 65 percent probability of below-average precipitation in the eastern and southern parts of Sudurpaschim, the southern areas of Karnali, the western parts of Lumbini, the southern parts of Bagmati, the northern belt of Madhes, and the central and eastern regions of Koshi Province, said Department Spokesperson Dinkar Kayastha.
Regions including the central parts of Sudurpaschim and Karnali, central and eastern Lumbini, eastern Gandaki, central and northern Bagmati, southern Madhes, and some areas of Koshi face a 45 to 55 percent chance of below-average rainfall. The remaining areas of the country have a 35 to 45 percent probability.
