Nepali Congress to hold 15th General Convention from January 10 to 12

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has scheduled its 15th General Convention from January 10 to 12, 2026.

Following nearly one and a half months of deliberations, the Central Working Committee (CWC) decided on the dates during its meeting on Monday, party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said.

The CWC had been deadlocked for over 40 days due to disagreements between the main convention and special convention factions. After extended discussions, the party’s establishment faction proposed holding the convention within January, and the schedule was unanimously approved in Monday’s meeting, Mahat added.

Mahat further said that applications regarding active membership, as initially reviewed by the preliminary scrutiny committee, will be sent back to the committee through the CWC for further verification.

He noted that applications related to new memberships and renewals will be scrutinized, with a deadline of December 29 for submission to the CWC. The party plans to ensure inclusivity when distributing new and active memberships, and only those granted active membership will be eligible to participate in the convention.

Mahat also informed that the tenure of the current working committee, initially set to end on December 9, has been extended until February to allow for a one-month grace period ahead of the convention.
