Gen-Z group protests outside PM’s office after failing to meet Prime Minister Karki

A group of Gen-Z activists staged a protest at the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers’ Office on Monday after failing to meet Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The group, led by Miraj Dhungana and Sudan Gurung, had come to submit a memorandum highlighting alleged nepotism by the Prime Minister’s personal secretary, Adarsha Shrestha, who reportedly appointed relatives and his spouse to government positions.

NPL: Sudurpashchim secures third straight win; Karnali defeated by 45 runs

Sudurpashchim Royals has extended their unbeaten run in Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 2 after captain Dipendra Singh Airee’s impressive bowling performance led the team to a 45-run victory over Karnali Yaks on Monday. In the second match of the day at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Karnali Yaks won the toss and opted to chase a 140-run target. Their batting lineup, however, faltered as Sudurpashchim bowled them out for 94 runs in 19 overs.

Budget freeze behind low capital spending in first quarter: Minister Ghising

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has said that the government-wide budget freeze is the main reason behind low capital expenditure in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Speaking at the meeting of the National Assembly’s Committee on Public Policy and Delegated Legislation on Monday, Minister Ghising clarified that projects under his three ministries were heavily affected as a combined budget of Rs 195 billion remained frozen.

No loss in electricity deals with India: Minister Ghising

Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Kulman Ghising has clarified that Nepal has not incurred any loss while purchasing electricity from India. Speaking at a meeting of the Public Policy and Appropriations Committee under the National Assembly, Minister Ghising explained that the bilateral agreement with India allows Nepal to buy electricity at a cheaper rate.

Murder suspect arrested after body of Maya Magar found in Gongabu

The body of 20-year-old Ayusha Magar, also known as Maya, was recovered from Gongabu Bus Park in Kathmandu, packed in a sack and wrapped in plastic. Police have confirmed that she was murdered on November 12 and arrested 24-year-old Surya Thapa, a hotel worker, in connection with the killing. According to Kathmandu District Police spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Maya’s body was found near Chakrapath in Tokha Municipality-9, and her identity was confirmed after investigation. Thapa has admitted to the murder.

NEPSE gains 50.44 points as turnover crosses Rs 7 billion

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) surged by 50.44 points on Monday, bringing the benchmark index to 2,650.66 points. The trading day saw a notable increase in turnover, reaching Rs 7.03 billion compared to Rs 6.28 billion recorded the previous day. The market remained in the green throughout the session. Out of 258 listed companies, 215 witnessed a rise in share prices, 37 saw a decline, and 6 remained unchanged. All sectoral indices posted gains, with the life insurance sector leading the rally, climbing 4.94 percent.

Lamichhane and De Lange help Biratnagar edge Janakpur in last-over thriller

Biratnagar Kings clinched a tense 9-run victory over defending champions Janakpur Bolts in a last-over thriller in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) Season 2 on Monday, with standout death-overs bowling from Sandeep Lamichhane and Marchant de Lange sealing the win at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. Sent in to bat after losing the toss, Biratnagar put up 135 runs for seven wickets in their 20 overs. Shubham Ranjan anchored the innings with a composed 38, while Basir Ahmad added 35 and Lokesh Bam chipped in with 28. Janakpur relied heavily on spin throughout the innings, operating spinners until the 16th over. Rupesh Singh was the most economical, taking two wickets for just 12 runs, while Sangeeth Cooray also picked up two for 26. Aaditya Mahat claimed one wicket.

Indian actor Dharmendra passes away at the age of 89

Veteran actor Dharmendra, one of India’s most beloved and enduring film legends, passed away at his Mumbai residence on Monday at the age of 89. Filmmaker Karan Johar confirmed the demise in an emotional social media post. An official statement from Dharmendra’s family is still awaited. The news comes just weeks ahead of his 90th birthday on December 8.

Leadership clash deepens as Gagan Thapa refuses to fight elections under Deuba

A fresh dispute has surfaced inside the Nepali Congress after General Secretary Gagan Thapa publicly rejected party president Sher Bahadur Deuba’s leadership for the upcoming elections, insisting that the party must contest under a newly elected leader. The controversy escalated after the party registered itself at the Election Commission for both the National Assembly election in February and the House of Representatives election in March using Deuba’s signature. Although Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel submitted the documents on Sunday, Thapa made it clear that this signature will not be valid for the elections.

Khagendra Sunar-led Hamro Party Nepal registered at Election Commission

The Khagendra Sunar-led Hamro Party Nepal has been officially registered at the Election Commission. Sunar and party representatives reached the commission on Monday afternoon with a musical procession, where they received the party registration certificate. The group had submitted an application for party registration on November 4, and obtained the official recognition letter today.

Birgunj Customs collects Rs 75.58 billion in four months, misses target by 15%

The Birgunj Customs Office has collected revenue worth Rs 75.58 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2082/83, falling short of the government-set target by 15 percent. According to the Department of Customs, the office had been tasked with collecting Rs 89.24 billion during the four-month period. While revenue collection in the months of Shrawan, Bhadra and Asoj was encouraging, the momentum slowed in Kartik.

Govt moving ‘seriously’ to grant voting rights to Nepalis abroad: Minister Ghising

Interim government Minister for Energy, Water Resources, Physical Infrastructure, Transport and Urban Development Kulman Ghising has said the government is seriously advancing the process of granting voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad. Addressing a webinar organized on Sunday by the NRNA Citizenship and Voting Rights Committee, Minister Ghising said the government has already begun the necessary legal and technical procedures to ensure Nepalis abroad can cast their votes.

PM’s Secretariat defends appointment of husband–wife duo, cites trust and security needs

Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s private secretariat has issued a clarification regarding the appointment of a husband–wife pair to positions within the PM’s secretariat, stating that the decision was guided by trust, security considerations and family circumstances rather than nepotism. In a statement released on Monday, the secretariat said the Prime Minister, who lives only with her husband, needed a reliable individual capable of providing close personal support.

Gold price drops by Rs 1,900 per tola

The price of gold declined in the domestic market on Monday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold fell by Rs 1,900 per tola compared to Sunday. With today’s adjustment, the price of fine gold stands at Rs 242,700 per tola, down from Sunday’s price of Rs 244,600 per tola.

Social Security Fund contributions near Rs 100 billion

The government’s Social Security Fund (SSF), introduced to bring all citizens under the social protection framework, has accumulated nearly Rs 100 billion in contributions. According to the Fund, total contributions have now reached Rs 95.44 billion. The number of registered employers has climbed to 22,309, while the total number of enrolled contributors has reached 2,641,189.

Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund receives Rs 93 million

The Physical Infrastructure Reconstruction Fund has received an additional Rs 10.1 million from Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Nepal on Sunday. LIC Nepal CEO Pranaya Kumar handed over the payment voucher to Finance Minister Rameshwore Prasad Khanal. The government established the fund to support the reconstruction of physical structures damaged during the arson and vandalism incidents that occurred amid the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9.

Seven charred Chuchepati Bhat-Bhateni victims remain unidentified after Gen-Z protests

The identities of seven people who were burned during the Gen-Z protests at Bhat-Bhateni Supermarket in Chuchepati on September 8 and 9 remain unknown, police have said. Spokesperson of Kathmandu District Police, SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, confirmed that these seven victims were discovered in a completely burned state during the arson and vandalism that took place amid the protests. A total of 76 people lost their lives during the demonstrations.

Suman Raj Aryal appointed as new Chief Secretary
