Govt to recommend Constitutional Council amendment ordinance to President
The government has decided to recommend the issuance of an ordinance amending the Constitutional Council to the President. Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel, announcing the Cabinet decision made on November 18, said the ordinance pertains to the “Constitutional Council (Duties, Responsibilities, Powers, and Procedures) (First Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.”
NPL: Harmeet Singh leads Sudurpaschim’s fightback to defeat Kathmandu Gorkhas
Sudurpaschim Royals claimed their first victory of the Nepal Premier League on Wednesday, defeating Kathmandu Gorkhas by 29 runs at the TU Cricket Ground. Batting first, Sudurpaschim were bowled out for 147 runs in the allotted 20 overs, recovering from a disastrous start. Madhesh Province Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal removed from post after impeachment motion passed
Madhesh Province Assembly Speaker Ram Chandra Mandal has been relieved of his post after an impeachment motion against him was endorsed on Wednesday. The Province Assembly meeting held in the afternoon registered the impeachment proposal, accusing Mandal of conduct inconsistent with the dignity of his position. A total of 76 Province Assembly members supported the motion, according to the Assembly Secretariat.
Home Minister focuses on preparedness to mitigate cold waves and snowfall-related risks
Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal has called for proactive preparedness and response strategies to mitigate the risks of cold waves and snowfall, with special attention to vulnerable groups, regions, and communities. Speaking at the ‘Disaster Dialogue’ organized by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), Aryal instructed relevant agencies to keep essential medicines and personnel ready to address health emergencies caused by extreme cold and snowfall. He acknowledged that the government alone cannot handle the challenge and stressed the importance of partnerships with national and international organizations, UN agencies, media, local communities, civil society, and the private sector. “We must foster partnerships in the storage of relief supplies, life-saving materials, warm clothing, and food,” he said.
Gen-Z denies disrupting UML program in Simara, alleges assault by party members
Representatives of the Gen-Z movement have denied allegations that they attempted to disrupt a CPN-UML program in Simara on Wednesday. Shiva Yadav, who identifies himself as the Gen-Z coordinator for Madhesh Province, said his group had no intention of interfering with the UML event. “Gen-Z had scheduled its own program at Simara Chowk on Wednesday. Any claims that we tried to disrupt UML activities are false. On the contrary, it was UML members who insulted, mistreated, and even assaulted our coordinators, including Samrat Upadhyay,” Yadav said.
Oli condemns ‘Gen-Z’ protesters at Simara Airport as anti-national and criminal
CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has strongly condemned the group protesting under the name Gen-Z at Simara Airport in Bara, calling their actions criminal, anti-social, and anti-national. Speaking at an interaction program on “The Role of Local Representatives” organized by the UML’s Local Development Department in Chyasal on Wednesday, Oli said the behavior witnessed in Bara undermined democratic practices, peace, security, and national interest. “These are not social elements; they are anti-social, anti-national, and traitorous elements,” he said.
Tension escalates in Simra as UML cadres and Gen-Z protesters clash
Tension has escalated in Simra, Bara, after a clash broke out between CPN-UML cadres and members of the Gen-Z protest group on Wednesday. UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and leader Mahesh Basnet were scheduled to land in Simra at around 11 am today. As UML cadres gathered near the canteen area at the main entrance of the airport to welcome the two leaders, they encountered Gen-Z protesters, leading to a confrontation. Following the clash, authorities closed Simra Airport as a safety measure.
Curfew imposed at Simara airport following violent Gen-Z protests
A curfew has been imposed in the Simara area after protests under the banner of Gen-Z turned violent, targeting CPN-UML leaders General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Politburo member Mahesh Basnet. The District Administration Office of Bara announced on Wednesday that the curfew will remain in effect from 12:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
Govt appoints Amritman Shrestha as Acting Executive Director of Nepal Airlines
The government has appointed Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) board member Amritman Shrestha as the acting Executive Director of the national flag carrier. Announcing the decisions of the Cabinet meeting held on November 18, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, said Shrestha will serve as acting Executive Director until the ongoing selection process for a full-time Managing Director is completed.

Waste disposal at Bancharedanda disrupted again as locals block trucks
Waste disposal at Bancharedanda has been halted again from today after locals obstructed trucks arriving from Kathmandu Valley. Residents of Kakani in Nuwakot and Dhunbesi in Dhading blocked the road, saying the government has failed to implement past agreements. Due to the obstruction, garbage trucks from the Valley were sent back to Kathmandu without unloading. Locals had already announced an indefinite shutdown in mid-Kartik, demanding scientific and well-managed waste treatment along with the implementation of earlier agreements. They said the commitment made by Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising during his visit to the affected area on Kartik 16 has not been fulfilled.

Tension flared at Simra Airport on Wednesday afternoon after a group claiming to represent the Gen-Z movement clashed with police and vandalized property, attempting to block CPN-UML leaders Shankar Pokhrel and Mahesh Basnet from entering Bara district for a scheduled program. According to police, a group gathered at the airport, chanting slogans and resorting to vandalism after learning that UML General Secretary Pokhrel and Politburo member Basnet were arriving in Bara. The confrontation quickly escalated, resulting in clashes between protesters and security personnel.
NEPSE falls by 4.98 points, turnover reaches Rs 3.77 billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 4.98 points on Wednesday, closing at 2,561.08. A total of Rs 3.77 billion worth of shares were traded today. Despite the slight decline in the index, share prices of 77 companies increased, while 8 companies hit the positive circuit limit. However, 170 companies saw a fall in their share prices, and 9 companies remained unchanged.
Govt preparing to allow conversion of old petrol and diesel vehicles into electric ones: Minister Pun
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Mahabir Pun has said that the government is preparing to allow old petrol and diesel vehicles in Nepal to be converted into electric vehicles. According to him, engineers and technicians have been trying to do this for many years, but the work could not move forward because the legal process did not permit such conversions. He said the ministry is now working to remove those legal barriers.
Gold price rises by Rs 2,800 per tola
The price of gold in Nepal has increased by Rs 2,800 per tola on Wednesday. The Nepal Gold and Silver Traders’ Association has fixed the gold rate at Rs 242,300 per tola for the day. On the previous day, gold was traded at Rs 239,500 per tola.
Direct flights from Pokhara to Bhutan’s Paro begin
Direct flights between Pokhara International Airport and Bhutan’s Paro International Airport have officially commenced. Universal Tours and Travel (UTT) had previously announced plans to operate four charter flights starting September 28, but the flights could not take place due to various reasons. Earlier schedules had also planned flights on September 28, October 2, 6, and 10. Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya confirmed that Bhutan Air’s direct Pokhara–Paro service has now been officially launched.
