Tension escalates in Simra as UML cadres and Gen-Z protesters clash

KATHMANDU: Tension has escalated in Simra, Bara, after a clash broke out between CPN-UML cadres and members of the Gen-Z protest group on Wednesday.

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and leader Mahesh Basnet were scheduled to land in Simra at around 11 am today. As UML cadres gathered near the canteen area at the main entrance of the airport to welcome the two leaders, they encountered Gen-Z protesters, leading to a confrontation.

Following the clash, authorities closed Simra Airport as a safety measure.

Gen-Z protesters set tires on fire on the road near the airport entrance as part of their demonstration. The situation in the area has remained tense due to the ongoing standoff between protesters and UML supporters.

Police have warned the protesters not to obstruct public roads and have urged them to stop the demonstration. Despite the warning, the protest and blockade continue.
