Voter registration for March 5 election shows encouraging turnout



KATHMANDU: Voter registration for the upcoming March 5, 2026, election has shown an encouraging trend, following the introduction of National ID-based registration alongside the biometric system.

The Election Commission reported that over 300,000 voters have registered through the biometric system so far, while registrations using the National ID have reached 225,000.

For those who missed registration via the biometric system, the commission has extended the deadline to November 21.

Officials acknowledged that technical issues were reported at some registration centers but assured that these problems are being resolved gradually.

The dual registration process aims to make voter enrolment more accessible and increase participation ahead of the general elections.
