Deuba couple arrives in Kathmandu after treatment in Singapore

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, have returned to Kathmandu after completing their treatment in Singapore. The couple arrived on Friday night.

Deuba and his wife had faced an attack during the Gen-Z protests on September 9 at their Budhanilkantha residence, with Deuba sustaining a serious injury to the back of his head that required 12 stitches.

Deuba had flown to Singapore for medical treatment, appointing party Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka as Acting President in his absence. Although the interim government had initially placed restrictions on Deuba’s travel, those were lifted after it was confirmed that his trip was for medical purposes.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress Central Committee meeting has been ongoing for a month. While most members, including Acting President Khadka, have voiced their opinions, the party’s founding group is awaiting Deuba’s return to make a decision on key matters.

A significant issue remains the lack of consensus on whether to hold a special general convention or a regular one. With Deuba’s return, party politics are expected to become more dynamic in the coming days.
