KATHMANDU: West Indies cricket legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been appointed head coach of defending champions Janakpur Bolts ahead of the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The franchise announced Chanderpaul’s appointment on Monday morning, describing it as a long-term partnership aimed at strengthening the team’s coaching setup and nurturing domestic talent.
Chanderpaul, regarded as one of the finest and most consistent batters in West Indies cricket history, brings more than two decades of international experience to the role. Over his illustrious career, he scored more than 20,000 international runs, including over 11,800 in Tests and more than 8,700 in One-Day Internationals. Known for his unorthodox batting stance and grit at the crease, Chanderpaul also amassed over 27,000 runs in first-class cricket.
Since retiring from playing, Chanderpaul has been actively involved in coaching. He has previously worked with the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Jamaica Tallawahs and served as the head coach of the USA women’s national cricket team.
He will now take charge of Janakpur Bolts for the second edition of the NPL, replacing former coach Pubudu Dassanayake, who led the team during the inaugural season.
