KANCHANPUR: Jungle safari has resumed in Shuklaphanta National Park, with the park administration reopening the activity for tourists from Monday.
The safari had been suspended since the onset of the monsoon, after heavy rains damaged roads within the park. According to the park’s information officer, Purushottam Wagle, the safari is now open but only along specific routes.
At present, two designated safari routes have been opened, while repair work continues on the remaining paths. Tourists can travel from Majhagaun to Singhapur via Bathaniya Taal, Baba Taal, Dudhiya Camp, and Rani Taal, and return via the same route. The second open route stretches from Majhagaun Paliyaphanta–Hattisar Chowk to Barkola Post and back.
Covering an area of 305 square kilometers, Shuklaphanta National Park is known for its large population of swamp deer (barasingha), with over 2,323 individuals recorded.
The park also hosts diverse wildlife, including 461 species of birds, 56 species of mammals, 56 reptile species, 15 amphibian species, 88 species of fish, and 111 species of butterflies. Lakes and rivers inside the park are also excellent spots for birdwatching.
