KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandrakuber Khapung has refuted media reports claiming that he threatened to resign if former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak were arrested.
In a statement issued by the IGP’s secretariat, Khapung denied the allegations and clarified that his meetings with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were held in a “cordial and professional manner.”
“The Nepal Police Headquarters has taken serious note of misleading reports circulated by various media outlets over the past few days, suggesting that IGP Khapung stated he would resign if pressured or forced to arrest former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak,” the statement said.
The statement further clarified that the IGP has made no such remarks and that in meetings with the Prime Minister and Home Minister, discussions were limited to analyzing current security developments and challenges, with a focus solely on maintaining peace and order.
The clarification comes after some media outlets reported that IGP Khapung had resisted pressure to arrest Oli and Lekhak, allegedly warning that he would resign rather than comply.
