Unified Socialist to hold secretariat meeting today

KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) is holding its Secretariat meeting today to finalize the dates for its Standing Committee, Politburo, and Central Committee meetings.

Party Spokesperson Prakash Jwala said the meeting will discuss the country’s current political situation, recent developments, prospects for left–socialist unity, and the upcoming national elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.

According to Jwala, the party has decided to participate in the upcoming elections to “defend the democratic system” and will emphasize the need for free and fair polls. The meeting will also approve strategies for cooperation and possible unification with like-minded political forces.

“The party will soon reach a conclusion regarding unification with member parties of the Socialist Front,” Jwala added, referring to ongoing talks among left-leaning parties seeking broader political alignment.

The Unified Socialist, led by former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, has been active in promoting left unity, especially after the rise of factionalism within major communist parties. The party’s leadership believes that a strong socialist alliance could play a decisive role in upcoming national politics.

The Secretariat meeting’s decisions are expected to set the tone for the party’s broader organizational and electoral preparations, including discussions on leadership responsibilities and policy directions.
