Water level in Saptakoshi River begins to fall as rain eases

SUNSARI: With rainfall subsiding, the water flow in the Saptakoshi River has started to decline.

According to Armed Police Force Superintendent Nirmal Thapa, the discharge measured at the Koshi Barrage at 6 a.m. Monday was 435,305 cusecs per second, down from 533,540 cusecs per second recorded late Sunday night.

He said the flow is gradually decreasing as rainfall intensity has weakened. All 56 sluice gates of the Koshi Barrage remain open to manage the river’s discharge.

On Sunday morning, authorities had raised the red flag and signal light at the barrage after the river’s water level reached a dangerous mark.
