Floods and landslides claim 18 lives in Ilam



ILAM: Continuous rainfall has triggered severe floods and landslides in Ilam, resulting in the deaths of at least 18 people across six different locations in the district.

In Ilam Municipality-5 Ghosgaun, six members of a single family lost their lives when the house belonging to Dambar Bahadur Tamang was buried under a landslide.

Four bodies were recovered from the house of Raju Chhetri in Suryodaya Municipality-1, Manebhanjyang. According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, Information Officer of the Armed Police Force, another person died en route to the hospital while being rescued from the same location.

In Sandakpur Rural Municipality-1, Chhange, one person died and another was injured due to a landslide. Five people from the same household have gone missing in Pyang, Maijogmai Rural Municipality-6, and a young girl is missing after her house was swept away in Sulubung, Sandakpur Rural Municipality-3.

A pregnant woman and a man were seriously injured in Mangsebung Rural Municipality-1. Meanwhile, in Deumai Municipality-5, one person died in Dhara, and two more lost their lives in the Dhusune area. Another fatality was reported in Ratmate, Phakphokathum Rural Municipality-3.

Rescue and search operations are ongoing in the affected areas. Authorities have expressed concern that the death toll could rise further as more information becomes available.
