All state resources will be used to protect citizens from risks: PM Karki

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that all state resources will be mobilized to protect citizens during the ongoing disaster.

In a video address to the nation today, she noted that continuous heavy rainfall has been occurring across the country since the evening of October 3. She said all state agencies have been deployed and urged the public to follow safety instructions and remain cautious.

Citing the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, PM Karki warned that rainfall is expected to continue for at least two more days and appealed to citizens to stay safe and alert.

“We are facing a high risk of floods, landslides, and erosion. Many areas are vulnerable to landslides. Government agencies are working round the clock with high morale to carry out rescue and relief. Highways and other infrastructure are under active monitoring. Wherever you are, stay safe, encourage others to do the same, avoid unnecessary travel, do not operate vehicles, and give top priority to safety while making decisions,” she said.

She also announced that the government has declared a public holiday nationwide on Sunday and Monday due to the risks, urging citizens to strictly follow advisories issued by security and government agencies.
