Department of Roads urges travelers to use main highways

KATHMANDU: The Department of Roads has urged travelers heading to various destinations to use main highways over the next few days.

This recommendation comes as security personnel, including Nepal Police and Traffic Police, will be stationed along major routes, and repair work will be carried out promptly in case of road blockages caused by floods or landslides.

With the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecasting heavy rainfall in several regions until October 6, travelers are also advised to avoid non-essential trips. If travel is necessary, the Department recommends traveling during daylight hours, as night travel carries higher risks.

Department spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha warned that the risk of monsoon-related disasters such as floods and landslides may rise until October 6. He added that preparations are in place to clear any blocked highways swiftly.
