Taleju Temple open for devotees today

KATHMANDU: The historic Taleju Temple in Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square has opened its doors today for the annual Maha Nawami worship and darshan, attracting thousands of devotees who come to pay their respects on this auspicious day.

Thousands of devotees are expected to visit the Taleju Bhavani Temple, which opens only once a year on Maha Nawami in Dashain. Kajiman Pyakurel, head of the Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Care Office, confirmed that arrangements have been finalized to welcome worshippers for darshan.

Taleju Bhawani was brought to the main square of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar on Phulpati day (Monday) and will be returned to the main temple on the morning of Bijaya Dashami (October 2).

On Maha Ashtami night, a traditional sacrifice of 54 goats and 54 cows takes place at the main square. It is also on this night that the Kalratri Puja is performed using tantric rituals, symbolizing a prayer for power to govern the state.
