WASHINGTON DC: U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have unveiled a new peace proposal aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, urging Hamas to accept the terms.
The plan calls for an immediate halt to all military activity. In return, Hamas would release 20 Israeli hostages who are still alive, along with the remains of over two dozen believed to be dead, within 72 hours. In exchange, Israel would free hundreds of Palestinian detainees.
According to a Palestinian source involved in the negotiations, Hamas has received a 20-point proposal from the White House. The terms stipulate that Hamas will be excluded from any future governance of Gaza and include provisions that could pave the way toward a future Palestinian state.
At a joint press conference held at the White House, Trump described the agreement as “a historic day for peace.” However, he warned that if Hamas refuses the deal, the U.S. would support Israel in completing its mission to eliminate Hamas as a threat.
Netanyahu echoed Trump’s message, declaring that Israel would “finish the job” should Hamas reject the proposal or fail to comply.
The Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank, welcomed the U.S. president’s efforts, describing them as “sincere and determined.”
In a statement via its official WAFA news agency, the authority reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with the U.S., regional powers, and international partners to end the war in Gaza, facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid, and ensure the release of all hostages and prisoners.
