Deuba stresses constitutional solution to political crisis

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has emphasized the need to resolve the country’s current political challenges within the framework of the Constitution, calling it the supreme law of the land.

Extending his best wishes on the occasion of Dashain 2025, Deuba expressed hope that Goddess Durga Bhawani would bless everyone with self-confidence and determination to overcome the difficult circumstances facing the nation.

Reaffirming the significance of the Constitution, he stated that it was drafted by elected representatives and shaped by the decades-long sacrifices, struggles, and aspirations of the Nepali people. As such, he said, it must be the foundation for addressing all political complexities.

Deuba highlighted that the Constitution has played a crucial role in resolving past challenges and establishing a path toward peace, stability, and development.

In his message, he said: “Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural, and multilingual nation. The deep-rooted sense of brotherhood among us has fostered a unique unity in diversity. This unity is the hallmark and identity of the Nepali people. Every Dashain continues to strengthen the bond among communities, institutions, families, and individuals.”

President Deuba also paid heartfelt tribute to the young individuals from Gen-Z who lost their lives during the protests on September 8 and 9, offering condolences to the bereaved families and wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

He expressed deep sorrow over the violence that erupted on September 9, when criminal groups engaged in acts of vandalism, arson, and looting. Targets included key public and private institutions such as the President’s House, Singha Durbar, Parliament Building, Supreme Court, political party offices, government buildings, commercial establishments, private homes, and residences of political leaders. Deuba described these events as a “very unfortunate and tragic chapter in Nepal’s history.”

He added: “Along with Nepal’s development and prosperity, our united contribution toward peace and harmony is essential. I pray that Durga Bhavani grants us all strength and courage to navigate these challenging times.”

Underscoring the deeper meaning of Dashain, Deuba said the festival symbolizes the eternal triumph of justice over injustice and truth over falsehood, and has long served as a celebration of family unity, social harmony, mutual support, and national cohesion.
