CHITWAN: Chitwan National Park is set to reopen its popular jeep safari service ahead of the Dashain festival, after a three-month monsoon closure.
The park had suspended jungle safaris on June 30, citing safety concerns during the rainy season, when muddy tracks deteriorate, swollen streams flood pathways, and fallen trees block roads, posing risks to both visitors and wildlife.
According to park officials, the park is preparing to allow safari operations from September 28 or 29, just before Phulpati.
Only jeeps that operated last year will be renewed for this season. Vehicles found in poor condition have been instructed to undergo repairs before being cleared. The park has also carried out maintenance work on tracks and cleared overgrowth since last month.
Once reopened, 32 jeeps will operate from Sauraha, 16 from Kasara, nine from Meghauli, five from Amaltari, two from Ujoli, and one from Madi, providing safari services inside the protected area.
