Deuba couple discharged from hospital, to relocate to Lalitpur after attack

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana Deuba, have been discharged from hospital and will temporarily move to Lalitpur following attack on their Budhanilkantha residence during the Gen-Z protest.

The couple was injured on September 9 when a radical faction of Gen-Z protesters stormed their residence, assaulting them with blunt objects and sharp weapons. Deuba sustained a serious neck injury requiring 12 stitches, while Rana also suffered injuries during the assault.

Both were evacuated by the Nepali Army and admitted to the Army Hospital for treatment. According to Deuba’s personal secretary, Bhanu Deuba, their health has now improved, and doctors recommended discharge on Wednesday.

In the meantime, the Deuba family’s Budhanilkantha residence was set ablaze and destroyed during the protests, forcing them to seek alternative housing.

They are expected to stay either in Sanepa, where Rana’s parental home is located, or in Jawalakhel, at the residence of her brother, Bhushan Rana. They are also considering moving to a rented home in Jhamsikhel.
